Fun with Sub Surface Scattering
Sub Surface Scattering is used in 3D graphics to give you the illusion that light is bouncing around inside an object. It's what gives Milk its glowing look compared to white paint which is flat.
A little while back Blender added this feature with a special work around which I won't explain here as they do it so much better on their website. So Go take a look.
My image is simply the default square which if first embossed a 'G' onto with the Array modifier 'boolean' tool. I baked it on then created another mesh with duplicated spheres and again applied the boolean tool to make the cheese holes.
I lit the scene with a couple of area lights at low intensity with high sample rate to produce soft shadows and set the Ambient Occlusion on an nice setting and pushed the render button and waited a long time.
It's by not means a master piece, but its worth having a look at. |
